“Mission in focus

Our primary focus as Mission Development Officers from the outset, was to encourage churches and church leaders in their work of mission.  We spoke to church leaders and visited churches to establish how we could help equip them, leading days in churches or pastorates on key mission themes e.g. vision, church growth, prayer and healing. Furthermore, encouraging those who have shared a sense of call upon their lives, connecting them with those who could facilitate opportunities, advice or funding, in different areas e.g. Christian Counselling and preaching. 

Mission Pursuit

We continue to encourage the training and roll out of Leading Your Church into Growth (LYCiG), encouraging participation at LYCiG conferences and continuing commitment, by hosting regular LYCiG catch up sessions.  Alongside the implementation of LYCiG Local and the Start Course, we have been able to lead training for church members as well as regularly preach throughout the Synod. We have partnered with Melanie Smith leading ‘Elevate’ days which have brought times of oasis refreshment and renewal for church leaders.  Together with others, we have enabled small and large mission fund grants to be awarded on the Grants panel which is a wonderful way to encourage churches and to facilitate mission. We have organized a pilot project with ‘Acorn’, a new gentle evangelism initiative from Michael Harvey, who is renowned for ‘Back to Church Sunday’, and exploring as Synod whether to implement this more widely.
