What stood out for you at the ‘Shine Your Light’ workshop?
The holy spirit came through Jonathan’s talk and carried his message. He spoke about how the message of God needs to be brought outside the building. Prayer is the most important element and because it’s central, the numbers of those who meet Jesus have increased.
There are churches who join with the prayer network at 7am and 7pm and this is important as we are all part of the body of christ; part of the same prayer network. Getting churches on the street is essential and this is what the ‘Shine Your Light’ initiative aims for. Many people will be on the streets, spreading the Gospel and carol singing amongst the community.
Dr Jonathan spoke about how people can “flow [God’s] creation” through prayer. Carolyn highlighted that “everyone still has something to give” and that “Synod provides momentum for this.”
Why did you choose this particular workshop?
Carolyn referenced scripture about a light on a hill that cannot be hidden and how you can see “light shines through people’s faces” and how God’s spirit is a “living and moving light” – always active. “We are building on what we’ve already got.” She mentioned the hymn “Everybody’s Building” as a good reminder about being a light on a hill and continuing to build goodness.
Carolyn also reinforced the importance of LYCiG (Leading Your Church into Growth) and how we need to continually harness our knowledge to provide clear communication to people to continue to shine our light on the streets amongst our community.
