Focused workshops and training sessions are now available for churches in the West Midlands Synod. Some of these subject areas are also offered by the National team in online sessions (*see below). The aim of the WMS sessions is to deliver a tailored approach to offer support individual WM churches.

  • Elder Trustee & Safeguarding via zoom or in person – Understand elder trustee responsibilities for safeguarding and how to implement policy & good practice in your church.
  • Safeguarding for Community Projects in person – bespoke support to help you understand and implement good safeguarding practice for your church community projects. This includes projects and activities that are already established or in planning phase.
  • Pastoral visiting & adult safeguarding via zoom or in person – take a closer look at adult safeguarding in churches. An opportunity to discuss your churches approach to working with adults at risk.
  • Safeguarding Health Check – for churches who want to have a review of their current practice and get bespoke guidance and support
  • National Safeguarding additional sessions online,  including Verifiers’ training, elders and more  – see details in the table above 

TRAINING SCHEDULE

In this quarter’s training schedule there are some offers that do not have fixed dates so that you can call and request times to suit your church. Core training is still scheduled.

Introduction to Safeguarding

  • Online self-led session those who have recent externally recognised safeguarding training via employment or voluntary work – see link in the table avove

Foundation Level: self-led, online (pre-requisite for intermediate training)

  • Basic principles of safeguarding practice for URC churches (suitable for all)
  • See link in table below

Foundation, Intermediate or Combined Foundation & Intermediate via zoom:

  • Foundation level training via zoom for those who cannot access the self-led training 1,5hrs
  • Intermediate via Zoom: for those who have already completed foundation level and require training to intermediate level. (Safeguarding coordinators, Elders, activity leaders/supervisors, pastoral workers)
  • Duration 2 hrs
  • Combined foundation and intermediate training course, do both in one session 2.5hrs

Advanced safeguarding – face to face only – requires a host church

  • Advanced safeguarding is in depth and covers subject areas that require face to face delivery for best impact.
  • Participants should have already completed URC intermediate level training before booking.
  • The session takes 5 hours to complete and can be done in one day or over two consecutive shorter sessions, distance permitting.

Church Safeguarding Coordinators Forum

  • An opportunity for CSC to come together to discuss their role and share good practice.
  • Duration up to 1.5hrs
